Bach Trumpet Modifications

Image
This Trumpet is in the shop to improve the playability.  We start with a thorough inspection along with precision measurements to establish a starting point for the modifications required.  Next we design and build a custom receiver and mouthpiece with precision internal settings. Braces are repositioned to relieve tension.  Removing stress in the braces will improve the sound resonance, response as well as the note placement.   The receiver was designed with additional weight and increased length to improve sound response and resonance.  Medium weight was chosen to increase sound core. We then dialed in the mounting position to find the best sound quality possible.  Chemical Cleaning was done to provide the best playing condition possible.  Ultrasonic cleaning on the valves improved the valve action.  Finally, Bell dents were removed, silver was buffed and polished to a high luster.

Scherzer Rotary Piccolo

Image
Scherzer Rotary Piccolo Trumpet This job involves rotor fitting and adjustment of the overall playability.  The rotors were very stiff and slower than the players expectations.   Most of the literature this performer will be using this trumpet for will obviously require very quick and responsive rotor action.  Like most new Instruments the break in period can be very tedious and many times frustrating time for the performers.   After thorough inspection we established a plan to remove rotors, check fitting, inspect rotor casings, rotors, braces for any burs and or solder imperfections.  Due to the delicate nature of most smaller trumpets some stress-tension spots were found. This may cause the responsiveness and resonance to be less than what the performer prefers.  This tends to be crucial for Piccolo literature requirements The next step is alterations of the leadpipe. This particular artist has specific playability characteristics for each pipe. We altered each p

Schilke P5-4 Rebuild

Image
Schilke   P5-4 Piccolo Trumpet  This amazing Piccolo took pretty hard fall.  The leadpipe was bent and broken off, Bell was bent out of position. The best plan was to remove Leadpipe and the Bell.  This will allow proper reshaping  and repositioning the bent parts and braces.  Basically breakdown and rebuilding the entire trumpets will bring this trumpet back to the amazing playability as it was originally designed. Mock up setting was repeatedly checked to find the proper shape, fitting and alignment. This will be crucial for the optimum sound and playability.  Bell stem has been straightened, Bell flare reshaped hand buffed and polished.  Remounted and soldered back into place. The leadpipe was de-dented, reshaped, remounted then soldered back into place.  The placement of the mouthpipe receiver is a vital part of this type of Piccolo’s characteristic sound.

Schilke E3L-4 Bell Conversion Working with Trumpeter David Martinez.  This project involved converting this incredible 4 Valve Eb Trumpet to receive Bach 239 C-Trumpet Bell and play in D (Uhhhmmm...)  What can I say, Trumpeters... we are an awesome breed. After a trip to the Schilke factory having a set of D Trumpet slides made, David brought back to have the conversion completed.  A substantial amount of time is spent playing this trumpet both in Eb and D testing with prototype bells and slides to arrive at the best feel as possible.  Talking over the playing properties with each player gives me detailed notes of the players needs.  Understanding each player has their own set of playing attributes.  I strive to accomplish only the finest results.  Precision measurements are taken to create bell receiving hardware.  This is required to convert the Bach C-Trumpet Bell size with the Schilke Eb Trumpet bell sleeve.  Internal work is done to Bell tail,
